NZCT Tournament - Final Vs Scots, 10th December 2009
Oh dear. We lost today. It was an awful day, very Misty and freezing. Anyway, Danny won the toss and bowled first. We started extremely well, as we got 2 of there very good and rep batsman out. After 10 overs, we had Scots 15-5. We got a bit too complacent and started bowling pretty average. They had one batsman who threw the bat at everything, we just couldn't get the edge - when we did get the edge, it went through the slips for 4. The other batsman was playing a very good knock, hardly putting a shot wrong, he pulled well and cut well. He got on a roll. Our fielding was awful. I fielded pretty shit. At drinks they were 84-5. After that, we still could not get the wicket and break that partnership. Finally in the 34th over, we got one. 182-6. We bowled well towards the end and they got to 200-7 exactly. If we had got one more wicket, we would have been into there tail....not to be today. Anyway we started our chase poorly. I was bowled in controversial circumstances, I defended the ball, and rolled on the stumps very slowly. Because of the wind - their was NO bails - no evidence that they would have came off. Anyway. I was out for 4. Then soon after, Alex Bremner got a shocker of an LBW decision. Pitched way outside leg stump and hit his pad when he was well forward, still the umpire put his finger up, not knowing the LBW rule. Danny and Sam C looked good, until Danny got caught at mid on and Sam C bowled by a brilliant yorker. Sam Petersen and Henry held our innings together, but we were always drifting behind the run rate. At drinks we were around 76-4. Sam P got out for 28 and then we were pretty much dead. Our bottom order didn't last long at all. We were all out for 147. Very Disappointing and guttering as we miss out on nationals, and even our 3rd team beat Scots!! Scots play in J2 grade and we ended up winning J1 grade. That's cricket sometimes and the unpredictable happened. That is the end of our Pre Xmas season. Will start Next year in intermediate grade. Hopefully the same team is kept for next year, i'm sure it will.

NZCT Tournament Game 3 Vs St Pats Town 9th December 2009
Well, what a game for us. The best game of cricket I've ever had in my life! It all started when Danny won the toss and we batted first. Me and Alex looked to attack first up and we did just that, that came to a close when Alex was trapped LBW at about 26-1. Then Sam Collier and myself batted very aggressively - Sam C taking the attack to the bowlers, i was more defensive and hit the lose one away as Sam Just about went at everything and played some awesome cricket shots. Anyway we were 131-1 at drinks (20 overs) and going along very well. I was on 45* and Sam Collier 59* and we were once again told to play it like a T20. And we did just that to the extreme. Once i got to 50 it was a relief. Sam C got out - good knock of 62 off 48 balls. That brought Danny it. Now that I'd past 50, I just threw my bat at everything i could and it paid off. Danny was hitting the ball CLEAN as a whistle and taking the same approach as myself. I was hitting the ball well, and i was getting close to my 100. A couple more boundaries got me to 99, and the field was brought in. George Metson bowled me a half tracker and i hit it down to fine leg for 1. That brought up my 100, i was pretty happy. Danny at the other end was hitting 4's and 6's left right and center. He too got his first 100, off 5o balls!! He got out with 3 overs left, we'd put on 195 runs for the 3rd wicket in very quick time. Sam P came in and hit a few, then got out for 8 or something. I carried my bat through the 40 overs and we had scored a massive 352-4 in 40 overs, 231 runs in the last 20 overs! I was 139* off 93 balls, my best innings by far. St Pats had a monumental task and George Metson started batting well. He was timing the ball well and we couldn't get him out. We finally got a wicket, then george got out for a well made 58. Our bowlers bowled well kept things tite and we eventually got the wickets. Jesse got 3 wickets - good bowling once again, cleaning up the tail. We got them out for 133, winning by 219 runs!! A great Days cricket. We are now to play scots in the Final - whoever wins goes to nationals.
NZCT Tournament Game 2 Vs HVHS, 8th December 2009
We won this game very easily and very well. We bowled first and got some early wickets and most importantly there scoring rate down. They were 3 wickets down for 20 and their good batsman was in. Te Raina was bowling fast and on the dot. He bowled a ball to there decent batsman and broke his bat!!! It hit in between the willow and the Handel and broke his Fusion 1000 SH! A big blow for him! It was hilarious. Anyway, Sam Wilson got him out caught - trying to pull his bouncer but failed to do so! It went up in the air and a easy catch for Danny in the slips. It was about 57-5 and there was one batter in there team down the order that looked good. He stayed there, showed the rest of his team how to bat. We then had them 76-9 but the tail enders gave it a whack. They ended up on 106-10. It was an easy total to chase down, Alex was out for 10, I just wanted to be there at the end, wasn't taking any risks at all, Sam Came in and played some elegant shots for 22, he was out caught, trying to pull. We only needed about 26 runs to win when Danny came in, he took control, gave him the strike. He got 18* and I got 33*. A good win by 8 wickets.
NZCT Tournament Game 1 Vs St Pats Silverstream. 7th December 2009
The venue for this was Ian Galloway Park, and the winner would go to Nationals.
Anyway, Danny won the toss and batted first on a nice artifitial pitch. Me and Alex B opened and took a while to get used to the extra bounce. We were 26-0 after 12 overs - slow. So we then found the bad balls and attacked very well. At Drinks we were 81-0 a good recovery from a slow start. We were told to play like a T20 format now. And i threw my wicket away doing so for 36. So did Alex B for 42.We'd both 'done our job'. And Danny himself lost his wicket too for 1. Sam Collier and Sam Petersen were in and we needed a good partnership, and we got that from them. Sam C's Pulling and backfoot play was fantastic as was his front foot play. Sam P played a supporting innings and fed Sam C the strike. Sam C got 71 (4 sixes!). Sam P got out not long afterwids for a well made 45, Te Raina came in at the last over and hit two 6's, one beautifly down the ground. We had got to 228-6. A respectible total. We started very well with the ball, keeping the runs down, we finally got a wicket and they kept coming. One of there openers stayed in and smashed alot of 4's and 6's.He got 83, 17 runs short of a 100! Stream's Run-rate was never going to win them the game, as a result they we restricted to 171-8. A good win to start off with

WC Vs HIBS, 5th December 2009
With Our last 2 games been cancelled due to rain, we finally got a game in. HIBS won the toss and we had a bat First. Me and Alex B opened, i was struggling quite a bit, not getting my foot to the ball, I was out for 8, caught behind at first slip. Disappointing. Anyway, Alex and Sam Collier batted well and Sam got out for a well made 38. Alex continued to Ancher the innings well and Danny joined him and imediatly the run-rate uped. He batted very well and Alex supported him well, Danny hit his way to another 50, Alex B's long vitual of 44 came to an end in the 38th over. A good innings. We got 222-5. A decent score. HIBS came in with nothing to lose, we got an early wicket or two and then Ben Skilton really put us to the sword. All our bowlers bowled too short to him and as a result went for alot of runs. Sam Wilson had a bad day at the office with 3 overs for 35 runs. You have days like that sometimes. We got him out before the drinks break with Danny producing some captain magic with getting him caught and bowled for 39. At Drinks HIBS were 120-4 with not much batting left. After drinks, we then bowled well and our feilding improved emeansly. They lost wickets very regually and as a result they were all out for 172 with the wickets spread around everyone, Jesse chipped in well in the end with 2-11 off 4 overs. Handy cricketer to have in our team, bowls wicket to wicket all day and hard to get away! Good win by 50 runs and a decent lead up to the NZCT Tourney.
WC Vs Hutt Valley High, 15th November 2009
Today we had an ok game, wasn't our best cricket but a win in the bank. We bowled first again and as usual the Hutt High top order wasn't upto scratch. Te Raina got 2 quick wickets and we capatilised on them keeping the run rate down and bowling well, Henry came on to bowl, got the very good batsman out bowled. That was ment to be there only decent batsman! At drinks (20 overs) HVHS were 100-8. James R who was replacing Jesse (sick) was bowling very well. He had allready taken 3 wickets and just needed to more, those wickets were hard to come by as the HVHS 10 and 11 batsman showed some fight and determination - what thier top order lacked! Our Fielding turned bad and were letting through runs and overthrows. James R got the last 2 wickets, so he had a brilliant 5-24 off 7 overs. HVHS got 168-10. An extra 50 runs. We went out there with a postitive attitude as Alex and I hit a few boundries. I got out for 10, played on tying to play a cover drive but too full. 21-1. Sam Collier then came in and hit 18 in 5 balls before he was caught. Alex and Danny Batted for a while and batted sensibly. Alex got out for 19 - very mature innings, we needed someone to stay there. Sam P came in and got out. We were beginning to get close to the total, and we passed 168 with 5 wickets down, Danny again seeing us home in 56* and James R 9*. A good hard fought game of cricket.

Coll 9A's Vs Tawa, 8th November 2009
Well well well, a win in the end, a pretty average game of cricket. Firstly the pitch. A SHOCKER! Was a grass wicket that didn't bounce one bit. So we bowled first. We didn't get any early wickets, but we kept the scoring rate down - 41-0 after 19 overs. Sam W got a wicket at last and then Tawa continued the ''block block'' attitude and continued there extreamly low run rate as we continued to bowl on the right area's. We started getting wickets and, Te Raina getting 2 great runouts, both direct hits. Jesse T came on and bowled well, 5 overs, 3 wickets for 6 runs off 5 overs, good stuff. Te Raina, 0-9 off 7 overs. All bowlers bowled well. Tawa got 105-7 off 40 tite overs by us. We soon found the pitch a complete nightmare - bounce and slowness, I was out LBW for nothing. We were 37-5 and looked very shakey but Danny and Te Raina batted great, just the partnership that we needed! 50 runs exactly for the 6th wicket. Te went out at 87-6 for a very handy and mature 19. Jesse came in and got 4* and Danny was 54*(great knock) when we passed 105 after 34 overs. A decent win on the worst cricket pitch in wellington i've played on in all my games of cricket.
Labour Weekend Tournament 24th, 25th, 26th October 2009
Game 1 vs CHB (Central Hawkes Bay) (45 overs): CHB 62-10, WC 63-2
Could not be a more easy win to us. It was a great day, not a cloud in the sky, We met up at Nelson park. Danny got on with the Toss, lost it and we had to bowl first. We got an early wicket, they were not regular with two of there batters put on a mini partnership, just stayed there - not many runs. Anyway, Sam P removed them both with 3 wickets - very good bowling by him. Wickets were very regular from then and CHB were 57-7. Jesse Bowled well at the end, everyone did. 62 was never going to be a problem for us to chase, although we lost Alex B LBW for 1, Sam Collier and I held the Innings together. I got out for 11. Disappointing not to be there at the end, Henry 8*, Sam Collier 20* got us home in the end with lots of overs remaining. A good win for us to start with. Won by 8 Wickets
Game 2 Vs HIBS (50 overs): WC 196-4, HIBS 121-10
A decent game for us, because we got to bat first. It was a hard pitch to play strokes on with the new ball. We were 12-0 after 9 overs - very slow, Alex B got out for 11, I stayed in, ran out Sam Collier in the process (had a complete Brain Explosion!!). I couldn't get anything away, could not pick the gaps, and i got bowled in the 28th over for a very scratchy 19 off LOTS off balls. Now Sam P and Danny were in and batted great. They put on 115 runs for the 4th wicket. Danny Picked the gaps and Sam P did the attacking, both got very handy 50's (Sam's First - good stuff). Danny got 78 (out in last over), and Sam Wilson 1* and Sam P unbeaten on 50 odd. We got 196-4. The HIBS bowlers bowled very well. Ben Skilton 10 overs for 13 runs or something like that, very impressive. HIBS were going to struggle chasing the total on this slow wicket but they were 51-1 after 15 overs, not a great start by us. We got regular wickets from then with Henry cleaning up the tail with impressive figures of 4 wickets for 1 run (was a wide!) off 5 overs!! Also Sam Wilson was a standout with 3 wickets. A good team effort.
Game 3 Vs Napier Tech U15 (45 overs) NT 155-8, WC 116-7
Our Final game of the tournament was against Napier Tech U15. Things started well with Danny winning the toss and bowling first. We got an early wicket, then the two batsman played well for a while. One of them took it to us and tried slogging. It got him out eventually. He didn't make much, as a result he gave his wicket away. NT were 45-3 after 18 overs, that was soon to be 48-5 with Sam P the chief destroyer. He continues to have a great tournament. But we started to slack off in the field and they got a few runs. 71-7 was the score at one time, NT batted there whole 45 overs and our bowlers couldn't get the last 3 wickets. It got frustrating as one guy stayed in for a long time, they ended getting 155-9 in 45 overs. Gettable total for sure. Batting was tough on this wicket as it was very slow. They had some very good opening bowlers and got Alex and Sam Collier out. Me and Danny were in and had to defend, the bowling was spot on the money. It was hard work and slow going. 23-2 after 17 overs was not great. I decided to have a swing because we were so behind on the run-rate. 4.7 the Run rate required. I got out caught. Danny was running out of partners and we were losing wickets. We needed 7/8 an over, just couldn't get that on this pitch. The bowlers were fantastic. 155 was too much for us, we ended 116-7 after 45 overs with Danny getting 39. A fun tournament, good to get some cricket.
